India Crosses 4,000 Active Covid-19 Cases; 5 Deaths and 65 New Infections in 24 Hours

India’s active Covid-19 cases have once again crossed the 4,000 mark, showing a worrying upward trend. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), the country added 65 new infections and reported five Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases now stands at 4,026, up from 3,961 on Monday.

Among the states, Kerala continues to report the highest number of fresh infections, with 1,416 new cases, followed by Maharashtra (494 cases) and Gujarat (397 cases) in the last 24 hours.

Five Deaths Reported in 24 Hours

As per MoHFW, five individuals succumbed to Covid-related complications. These included:

  • Kerala: An 80-year-old man with pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.

  • Maharashtra: A 70-year-old woman with diabetes mellitus, and a 73-year-old woman with both diabetes and hypertension.

  • Tamil Nadu: A 69-year-old woman suffering from Type 2 diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.

  • West Bengal: A 43-year-old woman with acute coronary syndrome, septic shock, and acute kidney injury.

These cases highlight that individuals with underlying health conditions remain highly vulnerable to Covid-19 complications.

Spread Beyond Key States

In addition to Kerala, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, several other states are witnessing a triple-digit surge in daily cases. Delhi reported 393 cases, West Bengal 372, Karnataka 311, Tamil Nadu 215, and Uttar Pradesh 138, indicating a nationwide resurgence in transmission.

On Saturday, the country had already crossed the 3,000 active case mark, reaching 3,395 cases, with Kerala leading the tally. Just two days later, the total increased to 3,961, and within the following 24 hours, climbed further to over 4,000.

Recoveries Offer Some Relief

Despite the rise in infections, 512 patients recovered and were discharged in the last 24 hours, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the rise.

With the monsoon season approaching and public health measures becoming more relaxed, health experts warn that this uptick in Covid-19 cases must not be ignored. States and local authorities are urged to increase surveillance, promote precautionary measures, and strengthen health infrastructure.
