Incessant rainfall in Tripura has left nearly 380 people from 116 families homeless within the past 24 hours. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre statement on Wednesday, the residents of the South Tripura district are sheltered at seven relief camps in the Belonia area of the district.
No death, injury, or damage to property has been reported so far.
The water level of the Muhuri River in Belonia has reportedly crossed the danger mark, as recorded last at 17.30 m on Tuesday evening. The water level of the Lawgang River in Shantirbazaar was recorded at 21.90 metres, which is also above the expected flood level.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall in most places of the state is predicted. The department later issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall of 7 to 20 cm over a few places, with extreme rainfall expected at a few places in South Tripura district on Wednesday. Places that are likely to get heavy rainfall include parts of South Tripura, Gomti, and Sepahijala districts on Thursday.
Tripura Natural Calamity Prone
Over 32 people were killed due to drowning and landslides during floods earlier in the month. The rain at that time caused injury to 2, and one person is still known to be missing. A total of 52,906 persons were rendered homeless.
Taking account of the gravity of the situation in Tripura, which has claimed 32 lives and left several homeless, the State Department announced the entire state as a natural calamity-affected area.
