In a recent decision, the governments of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have approved increased ticket prices for the upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, scheduled to release on August 26. The adjustments were formally announced on August 25 and will be valid for a duration of ten days, from August 26 to September 4.

In Telangana, single-screen theatres will be permitted to charge Rs 50 extra per ticket, while multiplexes and special theatres can opt for an additional Rs 100 on ticket prices. This increase applies across all cinema venues in the state. However, producers KVN and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations LLP are required to contribute Rs 1 crore to the Telugu Film Industry Employees Welfare Committee, underlining the government’s focus on industry welfare.

Additionally, the Telangana government has mandated that advertisements highlighting the dangers of narcotics, drugs, and cybercrime be screened in theatres showing Toxic. Local authorities, including District Collectors and Police Commissioners, are tasked with ensuring compliance with this directive.

Andhra Pradesh’s Special Premiere and Standard Rates

The government of Andhra Pradesh has also introduced a special premiere screening at 6 am on August 26, allowing tickets for this show to be priced at Rs 600, inclusive of GST. This premiere represents a unique opportunity for audiences, provided at a premium price not extended to regular screenings.

In addition to the special premiere, regular ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh will also see an increase. Single-screen theatres can charge an additional Rs 50, while multiplexes will be permitted a hike of Rs 100, inclusive of GST. The enhanced rates will similarly be applied to five regular shows each day over the ten-day period.

The order from Andhra Pradesh clarifies that the Rs 600 ticket price applies solely to the 6 am show, distinguishing it from regular showings. This initiative aims to cater to the anticipated rush for the film, given its star-studded cast and substantial pre-release buzz.

Impact on Advance Bookings and Film Expectations

The approvals for increased ticket prices were given shortly before the film’s release, significantly impacting advance bookings. Prior to the announcement, the release team had postponed opening bookings in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, hoping for clarity around pricing regulations.

With the approvals in place, the film is expected to see a rise in advance ticket sales as anticipation continues to build. The film has reportedly garnered strong pre-release interest, with advance bookings already surpassing Rs 40 crore, factoring in blocked seats in regions where sales had previously commenced.

As the film gears up for its premiere, the Telugu markets are anticipated to play a crucial role in its overall box office performance. With increased ticket prices confirmed, the film is positioned to leverage the excitement surrounding the return of actor Yash to cinemas.
