Dominica is set to create a massive 23-foot brass statue of the Sisserou Parrot, the Caribbean island nation’s national bird. The sculpture will be installed at the top station of a new cable car project and is planned to become the tallest and largest parrot statue in the world.
Sculpture to Stand 30 Feet Tall
The brass parrot will stand on a 7-foot marble pedestal, bringing the total height of the installation to approximately 30 feet. Weighing around 4.7 tonnes (10,300 pounds), the sculpture is designed to serve as a prominent landmark at the cable car’s summit.
ABL Holdings, the company managing the cable car project, said the landmark is intended to showcase Dominica’s natural heritage and create a distinctive attraction for visitors.
Sisserou Parrot Symbolises Dominica
The Sisserou Parrot (Amazona imperialis) is found exclusively in Dominica and holds an important place in the country’s national identity. The endangered species is also featured on Dominica’s national flag.
By placing a giant representation of the bird at the cable car’s top station, the project aims to highlight the island’s unique biodiversity and strengthen the connection between tourism and its natural heritage.
Golden Love Bird to Add a Romantic Touch
The cable car’s summit will also feature a Golden Love Bird statue, designed around themes of love, relationships and commitment.
The installation will incorporate rings contributed by couples, linking the artwork with personal stories and memories. Couples who walk beneath the Golden Love Bird will receive a symbolic blessing representing enduring love and marriage.
Creating Memorable Visitor Experiences
The two sculptures are intended to become major attractions at the cable car’s upper station, giving visitors opportunities to explore landmarks beyond the cable car journey itself.
The giant Sisserou Parrot will celebrate Dominica’s wildlife and national identity, while the Golden Love Bird will offer a more personal and romantic experience.
Together, the planned installations are expected to add distinctive cultural and visual elements to the cable car summit while creating new attractions for visitors to Dominica.
