Kriti Sanon Responds to Criticism Over Raksha Bandhan Ad Outfit

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Kriti Sanon has addressed the debate surrounding her outfit in a recent Raksha Bandhan advertisement after some social media users criticised her look as inappropriate for the festival.

Sanon Says Culture Is More Than Clothing

The actor appeared in the advertisement wearing an ivory Indo-Western ensemble featuring a deep-neck bralette-style blouse, draped skirt and cape. While the look received praise from some viewers, others questioned whether it was suitable for a traditional festival.

Responding to the criticism, Sanon argued that a woman’s clothing should not determine how connected she is to her culture. She said the essence of Raksha Bandhan lies in the bond between family members and the emotions associated with the festival rather than the clothes worn during celebrations.

Sanon also spoke about her relationship with her sister, noting that they tie rakhis to each other and believe they can protect one another. She added that their pets are also considered part of their family.

Kangana Ranaut Joins Debate

The controversy also drew a response from actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who criticised the advertisement on social media.

Ranaut argued that women today have numerous clothing choices and should consider wearing attire she considers appropriate for significant cultural occasions. She questioned the styling used in the advertisement and described the presentation as inappropriate.

What Is Raksha Bandhan?

Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon of the Hindu month of Shravan, generally falling in August. The festival traditionally celebrates the bond between siblings, with sisters tying a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists as a symbol of affection and protection.

The celebrations commonly include rituals such as tilak, aarti, exchanging gifts and sharing sweets.

Sanon’s Recent Work

On the professional front, Sanon was recently seen in ‘Cocktail 2’, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. The film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
