A 21-year-old woman has reportedly been the victim of a gangrape incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, involving four men. Authorities confirmed that three of the suspects have been arrested.
According to local police, the alleged assault occurred in May of this year when the suspects reportedly entered the victim’s residence. It has been reported that the accused threatened the victim’s mother with a rifle, warning her against discussing the incident.
After a span of three months, the victim approached the Bhitarwar police station to file a complaint. An FIR was filed on August 23 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“This case was reported within the jurisdiction of the Bhitarwar police station, involving allegations of gangrape against a young woman. A case has been registered under the applicable BNS provisions relating to gangrape. Of the four accused, three have been apprehended by Bhitarwar Police. We anticipate the arrest of the remaining suspect soon,” stated Gagan Hanumat, SDOP Bhitarwar.
Regarding the threat made to the victim’s mother, Hanumat added, “The accused threatened her mother at gunpoint, indicating they would retaliate violently if she informed anyone about the incident.”
The SDOP further noted that while the incident occurred in May, it was only reported to the police in August, as the victim faced intimidation from the suspects. Ongoing investigations are being conducted into the matter.
