The family of a 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana is struggling to cope after he was fatally stabbed in Worcester, United Kingdom, on November 25. The victim, Vijay Kumar Sheoran from Jagrambas village in Charkhi Dadri district, was found early that morning with severe wounds on Barbourne Road. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive.
Six Held in Case, Five Out on Bail
According to West Mercia Police, five men aged between 22 and 35 were taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Officers later released all of them on bail as inquiries continue. A sixth person who had also been detained was let go without further action. The police have yet to disclose what led to the attack or the circumstances surrounding it.
Vijay had moved to the UK earlier this year after resigning from his job with the Central Board of Excise and Customs. His last posting had been in Kochi, and he left his government position to pursue higher education at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.
Family Seeks Help
His family back home has been appealing for immediate assistance from the Indian government. Vijay’s brother, Ravi Kumar, reached out to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, explaining how complicated the process of repatriating the body is. “Our family is devastated by this unfortunate incident. During this painful time, we request the support of the Ministry in bringing my brother’s mortal remains back to India for the last rites. Due to the complex foreign procedures, legal formalities, documentation, and financial aspects involved, it is extremely difficult for us to manage the process on our own,” he wrote.
Ravi also mentioned that the family fears involvement of individuals from Haryana and Punjab living in the UK, though British authorities have not confirmed any such link.
Haryana MLA Demands Swift Probe
The incident has led to strong reactions in Vijay’s home district. Charkhi Dadri MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan expressed grief on X and urged central authorities to step in quickly. “Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Vijay Kumar Sheoran… who lost his life following a brutal stabbing incident in Worcester, United Kingdom,” he posted. He pressed for “urgent repatriation” of the body and demanded a “transparent, fair, and time-bound investigation.”
Vijay’s family continues to wait for answers, hoping the investigation gains momentum and that his remains can be brought back for last rites. For them, the priority now is closure and justice.
