Gujarat Chief Minister Introduces New Land Demarcation Guidelines

The CSR Journal Magazine

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a comprehensive set of guidelines aimed at standardizing land demarcation across the state. This initiative was detailed during a high-level meeting of the Revenue Department, focusing on the transparent and systematic processing of land measurement discrepancies in villages that have been officially proclaimed. The Chief Minister’s approach emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the rights and interests of rural farmers while enhancing the Ease of Doing Business in the region.

Operational Committees for Land Demarcation

As part of the new directives, Land Demarcation Committees are to be established in districts under the leadership of the local Collector. These committees will include a range of officials such as the Resident Additional Collector, the Deputy Director of Land Records, and other relevant department representatives. Regular evaluations of the district-level land demarcation efforts are to be implemented to ensure effective management and resolution of issues related to land measurement.

Categorization of Measurement Discrepancy Applications

The Revenue Department has been tasked with classifying applications for correcting post-promulgation measurement issues into seven distinct categories. This classification aims to facilitate a more organized and efficient processing method. Among the categories are instances with no objections or reductions in public interest land, those with pending objections, cases involving changes in possession, and situations where significant alterations in land configuration have occurred.

Efficient Resolution of Complex Issues

In order to expedite the resolution of complicated land measurement discrepancies, the Chief Minister has mandated that applicants should not have to appear in person at government offices. Instead, additional authority has been granted to Taluka Development Officers and Mamlatdars to streamline these processes. Furthermore, actions will be taken by the Mobile Magistrate Court Committee in accordance with the Gujarat Land Revenue Act, ensuring legal compliance and prompt resolutions.

Transparent Governance through Statewide Procedures

The Chief Minister has underscored the need for a transparent approach in resolving measurement discrepancies and affirmed that efforts will be made to address as many issues as possible efficiently. This initiative aligns with the larger objective of providing effective and accountable governance to citizens, thereby enhancing their engagement with the government’s land management processes.
