Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve Suspended After Mumbai Metro Pillar Collapse

The suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve has been ordered by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the wake of a metro pillar’s collapse in Mumbai. Shinde expressed his sympathies to the family of the victim and affirmed that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) would cover treatment costs for those injured in the incident.

Incident Details

The unfortunate event occurred on Saturday around 12:20 PM at Mulund, specifically on Metro Line 4, which runs between Wadala and Kasarvadavali. A portion of a cement metro pillar fell onto an autorickshaw near the Johnson & Johnson Company. The Mumbai Fire Brigade reported that several individuals were likely injured due to the collapse.

Response by Authorities

In response to the accident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that emergency services, including the Mumbai Police, Metro staff, and Ambulance services, promptly arrived at the location to manage the situation. Initial reports indicated that four individuals in the autorickshaw were likely injured.

Casualties and Injured Persons Identified

The BMC later confirmed that one person had died in the incident, identified as Ramdhan Yadav. Three other individuals were also reported injured: Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, aged 45, is in critical condition, while Mahendra Pratap Yadav, 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, 40, are currently stable.

Investigation into the Accident

Following a detailed review of the incident by the MMRDA administration, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde emphasized that any officials who compromise public safety would face strict consequences. He mandated the immediate suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajit Salve as a precautionary measure.

Ongoing Relief Operations

The MMRDA confirmed that the Metro project team is actively coordinating with the BMC and disaster management authorities at the site to conduct relief operations following the collapse of the pillar. Efforts are being made to assist those injured and to ensure public safety in the vicinity.
