Donald Trump Warns Benjamin Netanyahu Against Iran Gas Field Strikes Amid Gulf Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against targeting Iran’s South Pars Gas Field amid rising tensions in the Gulf region. When questioned about his discussions with Netanyahu regarding potential strikes on oil and gas installations, Trump confirmed their conversation, saying, “Yeah, I did. I told him, don’t do that. He won’t do that.” However, he later clarified, “We didn’t discuss. We’re independent. We get along great. It’s coordinated. But on occasion, he’ll do something. And if I don’t like it, so we’re not doing that anymore.”

Iran’s Recent Military Action Against Qatar

The remarks from Trump followed recent ballistic missile strikes carried out by Iran targeting Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, the site of the world’s largest liquefaction facility. These attacks reportedly inflicted significant damage on QatarEnergy’s LNG facilities and the Pearl GTL Gas-to-Liquids plant. Emergency response teams were deployed to manage resulting fires; fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Trump’s Statements on Attack Dynamics

Earlier, President Trump addressed the situation on Truth Social, asserting that the United States had no prior knowledge of the attacks and suggested that Israel acted impulsively in response to broader regional tensions. In a strongly worded message, he characterized the Israeli strike on the South Pars Gas Field as an expression of anger. He noted, “Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit.”

US and Qatar’s Position on Possible Escalation

Trump emphasized that neither the US nor Qatar were informed of the strikes beforehand. He commented that Israel would likely refrain from attacking the South Pars Field unless Iran initiates further actions against Qatar. Furthermore, he indicated that the United States would not hesitate to endorse retaliatory measures against Tehran if there were renewed threats to Qatar’s energy infrastructure.

Qatar’s Response to the Iranian Embassy

In a related development, the Qatari government has declared the military and security attaches at the Iranian Embassy, along with their staff, as “persona non grata.” Following this declaration, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the diplomatic staff must leave the country within 24 hours. This move reflects the increasing tensions in the region amid ongoing military confrontations and political disputes.
