Cyber Crime: Engineering student arrested in Kolkata for issuing fake traffic challan

An engineering student has been arrested for Cyber fraud by issuing fake traffic challan and duping people in Kolkata. Accused youth Shovan Santra has been arrested by the Bidhannagar Police. There was a complaint of issuing fake traffic challan, following which police started investigating the incident.

The complaint was filed with the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station last month. The complainant alleged that he received a challan from a traffic police station after which Rs 40,000 was deducted from his bank account as a fine. The person grew suspicious that he has probably been cheated. After that, he approached the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station. Soon after starting with the investigation, Bidhannagar Police arrested a young man from Baranagar in North Kolkata.

Accused Shovan Santra is a 19-year-old engineering student. He is currently undergoing preliminary interrogation. The investigators said that several cases of online fraud by issuing fake traffic challans have come to light in recent past. Investigators also suspect that a gang is involved in this fraud. The arrested person was produced before the Bidhannagar Subdistrict Court on Friday.

Kolkata Banker arrested for creating multiple accounts with a customer’s ID for cybercrime

A private bank employee was arrested in the last week of August in Kolkata. He allegedly misused identity documents of a Sovabazar resident to open multiple bank accounts without his consent, which were later used in cybercrimes. The accused, Kushal Roy, was arrested by officers of Narayanpur police station under Bidhannagar City Police.

The complainant, Jayanta Pal, a resident of 40, Bonamali Sarkar Street, Sovabazar, had approached the Narayanpur branch of the bank about two years ago to open an account.

“The bank employee who assisted him collected his documents, promising to open the account. However, when Pal asked for his account details and an ATM card a few days later, he was told the account could not be created due to technical issues,” said an officer of Narayanpur police station.
