Air Marshal (Retd.) Jeetendra Mishra Appointed First CEO of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust

The CSR Journal Magazine

Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra (retd), previously the head of the Western Air Command during Operation Sindoor, has been appointed as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The Trust made the announcement on September 2, following a formal meeting of its trustees. Mishra expressed his gratitude for being selected, attributing his appointment to divine blessings from Lord Ram.

In an interview after his appointment, Mishra conveyed his sense of honour in being chosen from a vast pool of candidates. He declared that he views this role as a continuation of his service, having dedicated over four decades to the Indian Air Force. His commitment to the temple and its devotees was underscored by his promise to utilise his extensive experience to further the Trust’s objectives.

Trust’s Selection Process

The decision to appoint Air Marshal Mishra was made during a meeting of the Trust’s trustees in Ayodhya. Interim general secretary Krishna Mohan confirmed that discussions were held regarding the selection process. He noted that Mishra’s leadership during Operation Sindoor, which involved significant contributions from the Air Force, played a pivotal role in the decision-making process.

A three-member search committee was tasked with identifying candidates for the CEO position. This committee, comprising retired Supreme Court judge Justice Pramod Kohli, retired Lieutenant General Vishnu Kant Chaturvedi, and former scientist Suresh Haware, reviewed over 5,000 applications before making their recommendation. The final report was submitted on September 1, detailing the rigorous selection process.

In addition to appointing Mishra, the Trust welcomed three new trustees, namely Mahesh Bhagchandka, Madan Mohan Pandey, and Dr Nirmala Yadav. These individuals were chosen to enhance the Trust’s governance and fulfill vacant positions. Trust members expressed optimism regarding the management improvements resulting from these appointments.

Response to the Appointments

The announcement of Mishra’s appointment drew mixed reactions from political figures. Bhupesh Baghel, a leader in the Congress Party, raised concerns about the trust placed in a retired Air Force officer to oversee financial matters, implying a lack of confidence in current officials within the ruling party. He argued this signals a broader issue of trust within the government.

Conversely, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain congratulated Mishra, expressing confidence in his ability to carry out his responsibilities effectively. He highlighted the importance of Mishra’s leadership for the Trust’s future endeavours.

Mishra’s new role comes at a time when the Trust is also facing scrutiny due to ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities. An earlier FIR was lodged, leading to several arrests in connection with a reported donation scam. The Trust’s focus on transparency and governance is viewed as essential in addressing public concern over these allegations.

Financial Overview and Future Prospects

During the Trust’s recent meeting, several key financial matters were discussed, including the approval of annual accounts for 2025-26, which reported an income of Rs 237 crore and expenditure of Rs 91 crore. Additionally, the funds available as of March 31, 2026, stood at Rs 9,882 crore, indicating a robust financial position.

Future initiatives include proposals to incorporate technological solutions to mitigate manual involvement in the counting of cash donations, reflecting the Trust’s commitment to enhancing operational integrity. The successes of the Trust amidst the current investigative landscape will likely influence public confidence moving forward.

The appointments of the new trustees, alongside the CEO, are expected to foster more effective governance. As discussions on the Trust’s administrative strategies continue, stakeholders remain hopeful that these changes will bolster the Trust’s commitment to its mission and strengthen public trust in its management.
