Welspun India Limited, global leader of Home Textiles, has been announced as the winner in the ‘Outstanding Performance in Training Excellence’ and ‘Outstanding Achievements in Environment Protection’ categories at the Greentech Foundation Awards 2021. Welspun was felicitated for the various in-house initiatives taken to minimise the environmental impact of its industrial processes as well as for implementing inclusive training measures for the differently-abled employees in its workforce.
Greentech Foundation is India’s leading organization dedicated to the cause of creating, recognising, and rewarding best practices in the areas of Human Resource, CSR, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management. This year, the entire evaluation process for the Greentech Foundation Awards was conducted virtually – as opposed to the norm of an on-site visit by jury members – to abide by social distancing guidelines. The winners were assessed on the data submitted for their initiatives as well as a virtual presentation about their on-ground impact, by the jury panel.
Speaking on the win, Ms. Dipali Goenka, CEO & Jt MD, Welspun India Limited, said, “At Welspun, our commitment to community, sustainability, and inclusivity extends to the measures we implement at our factories and offices. We are delighted to be recognised at a prominent industry platform like the Greentech Foundation Awards. This is a major shot in the arm for us and will motivate us to keep raising the bar higher and set the tone for building sustainable, inclusive businesses – not just for ourselves, but also for the industry.”
The award for ‘Outstanding Performance in Training Excellence’ was granted to Welspun’s training & development team for developing a systematic training module to enhance employability amongst the deaf and mute individuals. These modules were implemented through customised development plans created for each employee, with further personalised training implemented as part of the learning process. Under the module, Welspun provided safety training to 170+ differently-abled associates working in the spinning department at its Anjar and Vapi facilities using sign language. Special training related to Swachh Welspun Abhiyaan (SWA), behavioural aspects and workplace management was also provided to these associates. Additionally, digital display boards were installed to seamlessly communicate organisation-wide announcements, instructions, rules/regulations, celebrations and more.
Welspun won the award for ‘Outstanding Achievements in Environment Protection’ for relentless efforts made towards using recycled drainage water collected from nearby municipalities of Gandhidham, Adipur and Anjar to ensure zero ground/river water usage. The company installed a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 30 million litres in its Anjar facility to ensure zero solid waste generation as well as to recycle all ETP water, to ensure better sustainability for its factory operations. The deployment helped ensure more availability of freshwater to the neighbouring communities that receive minimal rainfall.
