Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday urged corporate and private sector entities to shift their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus from urban areas to backward and remote districts. He emphasized that collaborations with the state government can be a way to bring about large-scale rural transformation in Maharashtra. The CM also spoke about the need for institutional structures within villages to ensure long-term sustainability.
“CSR efforts should not be restricted to cities. We must work together to make a real difference in underdeveloped rural areas. Rural transformation is not just about implementing schemes but creating ownership, building capacities, and sustaining momentum,” CM Fadnavis said while chairing the 5th Governing Council meeting of Maharashtra Village Social Transformation Foundation (VSTF) in Mumbai on Thursday.
CSR of Tata Group, JSW, IDBI Bank
Tata Group Chairman Noel Tata, present at the meeting, said the group has earmarked 20-25 percent of its CSR funds for sustainable development in Vidarbha and other backward regions. The group is also supporting cancer care facilities in Chandrapur and aiding government hospitals in Amravati and Solapur.
JSW Group Chairperson Sangita Jindal announced plans to implement development initiatives in 50 villages in Gadchiroli, alongside upcoming CSR activities in Chandrapur and Alibag.
IDBI Bank MD Rakesh Sharma said the bank is running programmes in 104 villages across five districts, and aims to adopt one school per branch and one hospital per regional office for focused development support.
CSR of Mihan India Limited (MIL) in Maharashtra
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday formally handed over newly developed civic amenities at Chinchbhuvan’s resettlement township to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).The event, held at the CM’s official residence Ramgiri, also saw Mihan India Limited (MIL) present a cheque of 50 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, besides announcing several corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for public institutions in the city.
MIHAN India also announced significant CSR allocations — 45.43 lakh for Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), 30 lakh for Indira Gandhi Govt Medical College (IGGMC), 25 lakh for NMC, and nearly 25 lakh for the Women’s Education Society-run LAD College. These funds are expected to boost healthcare and educational resources in the city.
“The civic amenities developed in sectors 34, 35 and 36 of the Chinchbhuvan relocation site were handed over to Nagpur Municipal Corporation, today. The families at this relocation site now have access to these facilities, marking an important step in improving daily life and well-being. Along with this, Rs 50,00,000 from MIHAN India Limited has been contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support those who need it the most,” the chief minister mentioned in an X post on Wednesday.
“Through MIHAN India Limited’s CSR initiative, cheques were also provided to institutions serving the citizens: Rs 45,43,936 to Government Medical College and Hospital, Rs 30 lakh to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital, Rs 25 lakh to Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Rs 24,93,000 to Women Education Society (LAD College). These efforts strengthen health, education and civic services, reflecting a commitment to improving the lives of the people,” he added.
