Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal Partners with Raijor Dal Ahead of Assam Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Guwahati, Assam: In a significant political move, three-term Congress legislator Abdur Rashid Mandal has joined the Raijor Dal party, indicating a notable shift in Assam’s political dynamics. Following his induction, Akhil Gogoi, the founder and president of Raijor Dal, expressed optimism about the party’s increasing momentum and anticipated that more leaders would follow suit as they aim for victory in at least 15 constituencies in the upcoming assembly elections.

Raijor Dal’s Growing Influence

Akhil Gogoi confirmed Mandal’s inclusion and noted that this addition would strengthen Raijor Dal, which now comprises two MLAs. Mandal, who previously represented the West Goalpara constituency, joined alongside another prominent figure, Dulal Chandra Baruah, who has served as the chief advisor for the All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU). Gogoi welcomed both leaders and highlighted the significance of their contributions to the party.

Upcoming Additions to Raijor Dal

Gogoi further mentioned that another MLA, Sherman Ali Ahmed from the Baghbar constituency, is expected to join Raijor Dal soon, which would increase their MLA count to three. He described the transition from one to three MLAs as a pivotal milestone for the party and underscored their ambition to secure at least 15 seats during the 2026 Assam legislative assembly elections.

Abdur Rashid Mandal’s Reasons for Joining

After joining Raijor Dal, Abdur Rashid Mandal commented on the decision, expressing his enthusiasm for collaborating with Akhil Gogoi to serve the community and the state. He described Gogoi as an energetic young leader with a leftist ideology that resonated with him since his student days. Mandal emphasized the new opportunities available within Raijor Dal, which he believes will allow for more effective work in service of the people.

Challenges Faced in Previous Party

Mandal also articulated the challenges he faced while being a part of the Congress party, which, despite its national stature and extensive workforce, offered him limited opportunities. He indicated that it became increasingly challenging for him to operate within the Congress framework, prompting his shift to Raijor Dal, where he perceives a greater capacity to contribute meaningfully to the party and the community.
