The cleric sought in connection with the alleged conversion of an Indian Air Force official’s wife has been apprehended after being evading law enforcement for several days. The individual, identified as Hazrat Maulana, aged 38, hails from Tamia, located in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. He reportedly surrendered late on Wednesday night.

A police team from Nagpur specialised in locating Maulana undertook a three-day search in Tamia but was unable to find him despite thorough efforts. The situation changed when Maulana voluntarily presented himself at the local police station, signifying the end of a brief manhunt. He is scheduled to appear before a court later today.

Allegations Involving Co-Accused

In relation to the case, two additional individuals have been apprehended. Ayyaz Taj Madare, who is noted to be a former classmate of the complainant, and Ameen Sheikh have already faced arrest in connection with the allegations surrounding the incident. The woman’s complaint, which brought the matter to light, was filed on June 13. The events allegedly transpired almost a year prior to the formal complaint being lodged.

The controversy intensified when a video emerged online, reportedly showing the conversion process involving the complainant. In this footage, the woman is allegedly depicted resisting the process, visually displaying distress while Madare holds her hands. Religious verses are purportedly recited over her during the incident, further fuelling the seriousness of the claims.

The complainant has asserted in her statement that she was forced into a conversion against her will, coupled with an alleged attempt to sexually assault her. Additionally, she reported being lured into a relationship under dubious circumstances, during which she was subjected to abuse, and ultimately pressured to change her faith.

Claims of Blackmail and Extortion

In her complaint, the woman detailed further allegations of intimidation and blackmail. She claims that compromising video footage was utilised to threaten her, resulting in attempts to extort substantial amounts of money, totalling lakhs of rupees. These serious allegations have raised concerns regarding the methods employed by the accused to allegedly manipulate and control the woman.

This situation has generated considerable public and media attention, highlighting issues of religious conversion and the associated risks that individuals might face. The unfolding details of this incident have prompted discussions about safeguarding individuals from coercive practices and illegal activities.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter, seeking to understand the broader implications and verify the validity of the allegations made by the complainant. Legal proceedings are expected to unfold as the case progresses through the judicial system.
