The CSR Journal Magazine

A case involving an alleged theft has come to light concerning the family of actress Raveena Tandon. The Mumbai Police have apprehended a 47-year-old caregiver, Rashi Chhabria, who is accused of stealing jewellery and luxury items valued at approximately Rs. 25 lakhs from Veena Tandon, Raveena’s mother, and her brother, Rajiv Tandon. The investigation has revealed that Chhabria was a trusted employee in the household for several years.

Chhabria was hired as the primary caregiver for the elderly Veena Tandon, who is 86 years old, beginning in 2020. During her time with the family, she reportedly gained their trust and was given access to various parts of the residence, including private areas that were generally off-limits to others. Such access would have facilitated the alleged theft, raising significant concerns about security within the household.

Discovery of Missing Valuables

The alleged theft first came to the family’s attention during the Dussehra festivities in 2022. Family members noticed that several high-value items were missing, including gold and diamond jewellery such as bangles, earrings, and a mangalsutra. Additionally, expensive watches belonging to Rajiv Tandon were also reported missing. The total estimated worth of these stolen items reached approximately Rs. 25 lakhs, intensifying the family’s concern.

After realising the valuables were missing, Rajiv Tandon promptly filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police, initiating a thorough investigation. Officials began their inquiry and efforts to locate the missing items. Preliminary questioning of Chhabria did not produce conclusive results, as she allegedly denied any involvement in the disappearance of the valuables.

However, the investigation took a decisive turn when additional evidence emerged, leading to Chhabria’s arrest. Police reportedly believe that the caregiver may have accessed a secure locker within the residence, from which the valuable items were removed. This aspect of the case has raised further questions regarding security measures employed by the Tandon family.

Police Recovery and Continuing Investigation

Following Chhabria’s arrest, the Mumbai Police managed to recover some of the stolen jewellery and luxury items. The authorities are continuing their efforts to trace the remaining missing items and further investigate potential involvement from other individuals. This ongoing inquiry aims to establish the full extent of the alleged theft and ascertain whether additional suspects may be implicated.

The incident has attracted widespread attention, particularly given the long-standing relationship between Chhabria and the Tandon family. The situation highlights concerns about trust and security within households, especially when caregivers are involved. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement aims to collect more evidence related to the theft and the whereabouts of the remaining valuables.

In light of these developments, officials anticipate revealing further information about this high-profile case in the coming days. The focus will remain on ensuring justice for the Tandon family while addressing the procedural aspects of the investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
