In accordance with the campaign, the Garden Department has started removing unauthorised fixtures from the trees. This includes advertisement boards, nails, and tangled wires from trees in Mumbai.

Meanwhile the concrete layers are being replaced with nutrient-rich red soil. Furthermore, adequate water is being supplied to ensure tree health and lucious growth. These measures aim to improve root aeration and overall tree growth to make Mumbai greener.

City-Wide Drive Under Leadership of BMC Officials

The campaign is being conducted under the guidance of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Mr. Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini, and Deputy Commissioner (Gardens) Mr. Ajit Ambi. Superintendent of Gardens, Mr. Jitendra Pardeshi, shared that a systematic plan is being followed, with work already underway on trees lining roads in every administrative ward.

Phase 1 Success Leads to Phase 2 Rollout

The campaign was originally launched in the year 2022. The first phase of the campaign was considered a major success. The success of the first phase has prompted the corporation to initiate the second phase.

Through ‘Vruksha Sanjeevani Abhiyan 2.0’ initiative, the BMC hopes to ensure better maintenance and long-term care of Mumbai’s urban greenery. It aims to provide every tree in Mumbai proper care and support it needs to grow.
