Comedian Samay Raina was honoured by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during an event in Mumbai on Wednesday. The gathering coincided with the launch of a short film, Digital Arrest, aimed at spreading cyber-awareness, along with the unveiling of the 1930 Maharashtra Cyber Anthem. Raina’s contributions to both projects were recognised during the ceremony, highlighting his involvement in promoting cybersecurity.

Event Attended by Notable Personalities

The event saw the participation of various prominent figures from the film and entertainment industry. Guests included notable personalities such as Ashish Vidyarthi, Pankaj Tripathi, Sharad Kelkar, Sonali Bendre, Javed Jaffrey, and singer Sunidhi Chauhan, among others. Each of these celebrities was honoured for their role in supporting the projects aimed at enhancing public awareness regarding cyber safety.

During his address, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasised the necessity of raising public awareness as a means to tackle cybercrime effectively. He stressed how artists, actors, and singers could effectively communicate such important messages to the community.

Raina expressed his gratitude towards Fadnavis for the recognition and humorously mentioned his “long-standing association” with the Maharashtra Cyber unit. He joked about having their contact number saved due to frequent communications with them.

Raina Reflects on Past Controversy

In his remarks, Raina also alluded to a previous incident involving the Maharashtra Cyber Cell. He recalled that a Cyber Cell officer had once visited his home for questioning, marking a notable turnaround in his relationship with the organisation. Raina said, “It’s a brilliant thing. Today, for the first time, it has happened that a Cyber Cell officer went to a comedian’s house and picked him up from his home, and this time there has been a felicitation.” His remarks were met with laughter and applause from the audience.

Raina took to social media to share a video of the event, where fans described the moment as his “comeback.” Commentary from fans included various expressions of support, underlining the significance of the occasion for Raina’s career.

The comedian’s past troubles with the Cyber Cell are rooted in his show, India’s Got Latent. In February 2025, he faced scrutiny over allegations he faced due to explicit content presented during one of his episodes featuring guest podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia. This led to multiple FIRs filed against Raina and his associates.

Raina’s Career Progresses After Legal Issues

Despite the controversy, Raina has made a successful return to the digital landscape. After removing episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube due to the fallout, he has now launched Season 2 of the show. New episodes are currently being released on both YouTube and Netflix, signalling a recovery in his career and an ability to engage with audiences once more.

Recently, Raina announced the release of two new episodes, further demonstrating his resilience and commitment to his craft. His experience illustrates the complexities faced by creatives in the digital age, especially regarding legal challenges.
