BJP MP Ravi Kishan Backs Govt Notification on ‘Vande Mataram’, AIMPLB Demands Rollback

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan recently expressed strong support for the Union government’s notification regarding the national song, Vande Mataram. Speaking on Sunday, Kishan noted that the initiative resonates with the ambitions of the youth in the country. He stated, “Everyone should read those verses.

The youth of the nation desires that the verses recited during independence be honored, and in addition to ‘Jana Gana Mana’, it is essential that Vande Mataram is also memorized.” Kishan emphasized that the younger generation has welcomed this guideline enthusiastically.

Uttar Pradesh Leaders React Positively

Previously, on Friday, Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also voiced his approval of the Union Home Ministry’s directive. This directive mandates that all six verses of Vande Mataram be sung before the national anthem during official events, which Maurya referred to as a “matter of pride.”

In his comments, he conveyed praise to the Home Minister, stating, “Vande Mataram has been published in the gazette; now all Indians should sing it as our national song. This is a source of pride for us.”

Support from Other BJP Members

Sudha Murthy, another BJP MP, expressed her endorsement for both Vande Mataram and Jana Gana Mana, aligning with the sentiments conveyed by her party colleagues. The reactions from party members have highlighted a unified approach toward promoting the national song among the populace in light of the government’s recent guidelines.

Opposition from AIMPLB

In contrast, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) issued a statement on Thursday, calling for the withdrawal of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ notification requiring the singing of all six verses of Vande Mataram before the national anthem.

The Board’s General Secretary, Maulana Mohammed Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi, articulated a strong objection to the initiative, describing it as unconstitutional and an infringement on religious freedom and secular values. He asserted that it contradicted the Supreme Court’s judgments and was at odds with the religious beliefs of Muslims.

Context of the Notification

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs had recently provided comprehensive guidelines regarding Vande Mataram. Under these guidelines, during any event where both the National Song and National Anthem are performed, the six stanzas of the official version of Vande Mataram are to be sung first. The issuance of these instructions has generated a spectrum of responses within the political landscape in India.

Implications for National Identity

This notification and its subsequent endorsements from various political figures reflect ongoing discussions about national identity and cultural expression in India. As Vande Mataram gains attention as a national symbol in educational and official settings, reactions from diverse groups illustrate the complexity of India’s multifaceted societal landscape.
