The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to initiate a significant anti-drug campaign in Punjab, with the first event scheduled to commence on September 18. The initiative will be launched by BJP chief Nitin Nabin, who is expected to oversee the programme’s kick-off. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also join the event to demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing drug abuse in the state.

Structure and Route of the Yatras

The campaign will involve four separate yatras, which will each cover a distinct geographical region of Punjab. All four yatras will depart simultaneously from various locations across the state. The overall duration of the campaign is projected to be approximately twelve days, aiming to touch on all 117 Assembly constituencies within Punjab.

The first yatra will set off from Lakhanpur in Pathankot, targeting the northern part of the state. Following that, the second yatra will commence from Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, with its focus on the Malwa region. The third yatra will start its journey from the Sri Anandpur Sahib-Fatehgarh Sahib area, while the fourth yatra will originate from the Veer Bhumi Memorial in Fazilka, situated near the India-Pakistan border.

Through these yatras, the BJP aims to engage directly with local communities in order to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and the significance of prevention. The party’s strategy includes the use of vehicles that will travel through various villages, allowing for meaningful interactions with the public.
