Basanagouda Patil Yatnal received a six-year party expulsion as the BJP MLA from Bijapur City in Karnataka. The party launched this disciplinary action because he broke party rules repeatedly while also making critical statements against senior party leaders, including former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and party colleague BY Vijayendra. The BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee took this decision after reviewing his responses to show-cause notices sent to him in February 2025.
Yatnal Breached Party Discipline
Yatnal’s expulsion was confirmed in a letter issued on March 26, 2025, by Om Pathak, the member secretary of the committee. The letter highlighted that despite several warnings, Yatnal continued to breach party discipline, prompting the committee to expel him from both the party and any official positions he held. The BJP leadership underscored that his repeated defiance of party norms could no longer be tolerated.
The controversial politician has frequently been in the limelight due to his outspoken comments. He recently made derogatory remarks about actor Ranya Rao and accused Vijayendra of indulging in “corruption” and “adjustment politics.” Yatnal had also publicly criticised Yediyurappa’s perceived favoritism towards his son, claiming it was damaging to the party’s unity.
How Yatnal Reacted to the Expulsion
Yatnal publicly used social media platforms to announce the political bias within the party caused his party expulsion. He promised to maintain his struggle against “dynasty politics” while staying devoted to improving North Karnataka’s development. He asserted through social media that his expulsion would not prevent him from working harder for the service of his people while continuing his political ambitions.
Earlier in his career Yatnal already faced disciplinary action from the party committee. Past show-cause notices including one from December 2024 had already warned him about publicly criticising party leadership. The BJP took decisive action when Yatnal refused to stop his disobedience which resulted in his expulsion as a strong message about party discipline.
The removal of Yatnal is anticipated to create political unrest in Karnataka particularly affecting the base of influence he maintains in Vijayapura. His future political direction remains unclear as he might challenge this decision or switch to support another entity.
