In a significant development in the Bhopal rape and blackmail case, Farhan Ali, the primary accused, was injured after allegedly attempting to escape police custody. The incident occurred on Friday night when Ali, being transported for evidence collection, reportedly seized a sub-inspector’s firearm during a stop in Sarwar village. A scuffle ensued, and a shot was fired, injuring Ali in the leg. He was promptly hospitalized and is under medical care.
The five individuals including Ali have been charged with manipulating college students before sexually assaulting them throughout Bhopal. Multiple victims claim the accused persons concealed their identities and then used the threat of sharing assault videos to suppress victims from speaking out. The police recorded multiple charges against the defendants under sections of the Indian Penal Code which include rape and gang rape and also include provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Freedom of Religion Act.
Protests Sparks In Bhopal
The case has sparked protests across Bhopal, with Hindu groups alleging a broader “love jihad” conspiracy. Demonstrations took place at multiple locations, demanding justice for the victims. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav condemned the crime, stating that the state government would not tolerate any form of “jihad or love jihad” and vowed that the criminals would face severe consequences.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and formed a three-member inquiry committee, led by retired IPS officer and former Jharkhand Director General of Police Nirmal Kaur, to investigate further.
As the investigation continues, the authorities are working to ensure justice for the victims and address the concerns raised by the community.
