Sources within the BCCI indicate that Suryakumar Yadav, currently serving as the captain, is likely to be relieved of his leadership role, with Shreyas Iyer expected to be appointed as his successor.

Possible Changes Following Recent Performance

Despite Yadav’s efforts, he may not only lose the captaincy but also face potential exclusion from the squad, even after guiding the team to victory at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. India successfully defended its title, making history as the first team to win the T20 World Cup in front of a home audience. Throughout the IPL 2026 season, Yadav scored just 270 runs while playing for the Mumbai Indians, contributing to the team’s disappointing ninth-place finish on the points table.

Upcoming T20I Series in Europe

India’s upcoming schedule places them in Europe, where they are slated to play two T20 International matches against Ireland and five matches against England starting on June 26. This series will be crucial for the selected players, particularly for Iyer, who has shown promising form ahead of his expected return to the national squad.

Shreyas Iyer’s Impressive IPL Performance

Shreyas Iyer, who last participated in an international T20I match against Australia in December 2023, is returning to the national team after a remarkable outing in the IPL 2026.
