Army Chief Conducts Security Review Along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir

General Dhiraj Seth, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), commenced a three-day visit to the Northern Command from July 7 to 9, 2026, focusing on the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. This marks his first tour of the Command since taking on the role of Army Chief. The visit aimed to assess both the security conditions and the operational readiness of various Indian Army formations stationed in the region.

During his tour, General Seth visited significant locations including the Headquarters of the Chinar Corps, formations across the Kashmir Valley, and the Headquarters of the White Knight Corps. He also traversed forward areas in the Jammu region, specifically Poonch, Rajouri, and Sunderbani, where he examined the operational dynamics and conditions of the security forces.

In Srinagar, the Army Chief received detailed briefs regarding the operational strategies of the Northern Command and the preparedness of the Chinar Corps. This included discussions on counter-terror strategies and coordination among various security agencies operating in the region.

Engagement with Local Leaders and Stakeholders

General Seth engaged with prominent figures including the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. They discussed various aspects related to security, stability, and inter-agency coordination within the Union Territory. The meetings emphasised the importance of collaboration among organisations to enhance safety and governance in the area.

At the Chinar Corps headquarters, the General reviewed multiple elements including operational deployments, counter-terror operations, and evolving security challenges. He also focused on the arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra, assessing necessary security measures to ensure the safe conduct of the pilgrimage.

Further into the visit, General Seth evaluated technological initiatives aimed at improving military capabilities and operational effectiveness. The adoption of advanced technologies for better preparedness was a key aspect of his discussions with military personnel during the visit.

Feedback on Troop Performances and Community Engagement

General Seth commended the professionalism and commitment of troops operating in challenging conditions. During his interactions with them, he acknowledged their dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the region. This appreciation served not only as recognition of their efforts but also as encouragement for continued vigilance.

The General also observed a demonstration of indigenous technological innovations, highlighting the Indian Army’s focus on integrating new technologies to enhance operational capabilities. The emphasis on technology absorption was noted as essential for improving effectiveness on the ground.

Concluding his visit, General Dhiraj Seth expressed appreciation for the professionalism exhibited by the personnel of the Indian Army and the Central Armed Police Forces.
