Andhra Pradesh Shocker: Man Fails to Pay Debt, Wife Tied to Tree in Public by Money lender

A very shameful incident has come to light from Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency. A 25-year-old woman laborer was tied to a tree, brutally assaulted and humiliated in public. The incident occurred in Narayanapuram village of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.

This comes over an unpaid debt taken by her husband by a money lender. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon and has triggered widespread condemnation across the state.

Victim confronted by Money lender

The victim, identified as Sirisha, was reportedly confronted by a local moneylender, Munikannappa. This comes while she was returning to the village briefly to collect her children’s school transfer certificates. Her husband, Thimmarayappa, had borrowed ₹80,000 from Munikannappa about three years ago. After being unable to repay the loan, he allegedly fled the village with his family and later abandoned Sirisha in Bengaluru.

According to local police, Munikannappa spotted Sirisha near the village and began verbally abusing her. He then allegedly dragged her to a neem tree, tied her with ropes, and physically assaulted her. He also threatened to kill her if the money was not repaid. When villagers attempted to record the incident on their phones, the accused allegedly turned violent toward them as well.

Locals alert Police

The police were alerted by locals, and Kuppam police arrested Munikannappa the same day. He, along with four others, was booked under sections 112, 115, and 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Section 3. Sirisha informed authorities that her husband had left her six months ago, though police suspect the couple may still be in contact regarding financial matters.

“Manikappa tied her to a tree and demanded money. His wife and sister-in-law ended up assaulting Sirisha. We have rescued Sirisha and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 341, 323, 324, 606, and 34,’’ said a police officer.

Andhra Pradesh CM reacts

Following the incident, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu who represents the Kuppam assembly constituency, strongly condemned the act, calling it “a grave injustice.” He spoke directly with the Chittoor district Superintendent of Police and ordered swift action against the accused. Naidu also instructed officials to extend full support to the victim’s family and emphasized the need to prevent such acts in the future.

“This is a grave injustice. The perpetrators must face the harshest legal consequences. We will not tolerate such cruelty towards women,” the Chief Minister stated. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and TDP MLC Kancharla Srikanth also spoke to the victim via video call, offering support and assuring her of justice.

The Chief Minister directed police to conduct legal awareness drives in rural areas and called for basic legal education across villages to prevent vigilante justice and empower citizens to seek help through proper legal channels.
