A heavy rainfall alert has been announced for isolated areas of Andhra Pradesh due to an advancing low-pressure system. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has indicated that the north coastal districts are expected to experience significant rainfall over the next 48 hours. The low-pressure area currently positioned over south Chhattisgarh, the north coast of Andhra Pradesh, and the south Odisha coast is reportedly shifting northwest toward the Vidarbha region.

The APSDMA has informed that the weather system is likely to bring intense rainfall today and tomorrow, particularly affecting the north coastal regions of the state as it progresses toward Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region. Local officials have urged vigilance in monitoring the situation, especially in vulnerable districts that may face waterlogging and localized flooding.

Emergency Preparedness Measures in Place

Local authorities and disaster response teams have been alerted to keep a close watch on low-lying areas that may be at risk of flooding. Baswanth Reddy, project manager at the APSDMA, indicated that the situation is being closely monitored, reinforcing the importance of preparedness in facing potential adverse impacts from the weather system.

Furthermore, it has been noted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated not only today but also tomorrow, necessitating coordinated efforts from local administrations to ensure public safety. Precautionary measures are being implemented to mitigate the effects of heavy rainfall on communities residing in at-risk areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its forecast, has also predicted isolated to scattered rainfall across various regions, including Rayalaseema and parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from September 12 to 18. This broad spectrum of rainfall is projected to commence shortly as the weather system progresses.

Broader Impact Across Southern India

The IMD has indicated that rainfall is not confined to Andhra Pradesh; areas such as Kerala and Mahe will experience isolated to scattered precipitation on select dates between September 12 and September 18. Coastal Karnataka is expected to receive similar weather phenomena on September 13 and 15, with varying rainfall patterns across northern and southern regions of Karnataka as well.

Additionally, the IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over several additional areas, such as Kerala and Lakshadweep, with peaks expected around September 14-15. The predictions highlight a pervasive weather pattern impacting multiple states in the southern region of India.

The IMD has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several regions, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh, from September 12 to 16. Wind gusts may reach speeds between 40-60 km/h in some areas, necessitating close monitoring of the weather conditions as they develop.

With isolated heavy rainfall anticipated in places such as Tamil Nadu and Telangana, the coming days will require ongoing assessment and response from local emergency services to safeguard residents and mitigate disruptions. The IMD remains vigilant in its weather monitoring efforts during this period of significant climatic activity.
