Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has congratulated veteran actor Anant Nag for being named the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024. Kharge further stated that Nag’s journey serves as an inspiration to both artists and audiences alike, making this recognition particularly meaningful. He wished Nag continued good health and a lasting legacy in the film industry.

Acknowledgement of Anant Nag’s Contributions

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is regarded as the highest honour in Indian cinema, and the decision to confer it upon Anant Nag reflects the recognition of his extraordinary cinematic journey. The award selection was made by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, which operates under the auspices of the Central Government.

Born on September 4, 1948, in Karnataka, Anant Nag is renowned for his versatility as an actor. His career began with a debut in the Kannada film Sankalp, followed by his Hindi film debut in Ankur. Throughout his career, Nag has portrayed a wide variety of characters across several languages, including Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Marathi cinema.

Some of Nag’s most notable works include the acclaimed series Malgudi Days, which has left a valuable imprint on Indian television and cinema. He has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including five Filmfare Awards and five Karnataka State Best Actor Awards.

In recognition of his contributions to education and the arts, he has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Bangalore University (North).
