UP Warriorz Secures Grace Harris at WPL 2027 Auction

The CSR Journal Magazine

Australian all-rounder Grace Harris was signed for Rs 30 lakh during the WPL 2027 auction, a significant reduction from her previous earnings of Rs 75 lakh in earlier seasons. This move marks her return to the Warriorz after a stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2026, where she played a pivotal role in the team’s performance.

Former Indian captain Anjum Chopra has commended the UP Warriorz for their astute acquisition. Chopra expressed her belief that Harris could have commanded a higher price, given her multifaceted skills. She highlighted Harris’s contributions, stating, “Thirty lakhs is a very nice buy for UP Warriorz because obviously she brings more than one skill to the fore; she is multi-talented.”

Harris has been a consistent performer in the league since its inception in 2023, showcasing her abilities with both bat and ball. In her WPL career, Harris has accumulated 818 runs across 31 matches, boasting an impressive strike rate of 149.54. Additionally, she has taken 15 wickets, with her best bowling figures being 4/15, further establishing her reputation as a valuable all-rounder.

Warriorz Focus on Balanced Team Composition

As the UP Warriorz prepare for the 2027 season, they have crafted a compelling roster that merges seasoned international players with emerging Indian talent. Their most notable acquisition was Sophie Molineux, another Australian all-rounder, who was signed for Rs 1.10 crore. Alongside Harris, the team has also secured the services of Indian all-rounders Sneh Rana and Asha Sobhana, wicketkeeper Sushma Verma, and Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce, among others.

The Warriorz entered the auction with a budget of Rs 3.75 crore and allocated Rs 2.60 crore to acquire eight players. Molineux’s signing stands out as their most significant investment, aimed at enhancing the depth of a squad that already includes established players like skipper Meg Lanning and Deepti Sharma.

With these strategic acquisitions, the UP Warriorz aim to break their title drought in the WPL. The team has had a mixed performance in previous seasons, finishing third in 2023, fourth in 2024, and last in both 2025 and 2026. Under Lanning’s leadership, the Warriorz are determined to improve their standings and make a strong bid for the championship.

UP Warriorz Full Squad for 2027 Season

The UP Warriorz have retained several key players for the upcoming season, including Deepti Sharma, Harleen Deol, Kranti Gaud, and Meg Lanning. The squad also features Phoebe Litchfield, Pratika Rawal, Shikha Pandey, Shipra Giri, Simran Shaikh, and Sophie Ecclestone, among others. The new additions from the auction include Sophie Molineux for Rs 1.10 crore, Sneh Rana for Rs 30 lakh, Grace Harris for Rs 30 lakh, Sushma Verma for Rs 30 lakh, Kathryn Bryce for Rs 10 lakh, Manali Dakshini for Rs 10 lakh, Sahana Pawar for Rs 10 lakh, and Asha Sobhana for Rs 30 lakh.

With a blend of retained talent and new signings, the UP Warriorz are poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming WPL season. The management and fans alike will be watching closely to see if these changes can translate into a successful campaign and ultimately lead to their first WPL title.

The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one for the UP Warriorz, as they look to build on their previous performances and leverage their strengthened squad to achieve their long-awaited goal of championship glory.
