PM Hails ISRO Launch, NVS-03 Satellite Orbit Boost and Five New Missions

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2026, congratulated scientists and engineers of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) following the successful launch of the GSLV-F18 rocket carrying the next-generation navigation satellite NVS-03. The mission marks another important development in India’s efforts to strengthen its indigenous space-based navigation capabilities and technological self-reliance.

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister praised the dedication and innovation of ISRO’s scientific community. He described the launch as an important step towards strengthening NavIC, India’s independent satellite navigation system, and improving navigation services for citizens.

GSLV-F18 Successfully Deploys NVS-03

The GSLV-F18 rocket lifted off from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 11:51 pm on October 30. The mission successfully placed the approximately 2,250-kg NVS-03 satellite into its intended Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

The launch marked the 20th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The successful deployment represents a significant step in maintaining and expanding the operational capabilities of India’s regional navigation infrastructure.

NVS-03 to Strengthen Indigenous NavIC System

NVS-03 is the third satellite in ISRO’s second-generation navigation satellite series. It has been designed to ensure continuity and improve the availability of services under the Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC), India’s regional alternative to global navigation systems.

One of the major features of NVS-03 is its indigenous atomic clock, which plays a crucial role in providing highly accurate timing signals required for satellite-based positioning and navigation.

The satellite also introduces the L1 frequency signal alongside the existing L5 and S-band signals. This enhancement is expected to expand NavIC’s applications, particularly in civilian navigation and positioning services.

NavIC is designed to provide coverage across India’s landmass and an area extending approximately 1,500 kilometres beyond the country’s geopolitical boundaries. Its applications include transportation, maritime operations, emergency services, precision agriculture and strategic requirements.

Five More Launches Planned

ISRO is also preparing for an active launch schedule, with five additional launches planned during the current financial year. These missions form part of India’s broader space development programme, which aims to strengthen satellite infrastructure, expand scientific capabilities and support future space exploration.

The space agency is simultaneously advancing preparations for the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme, including its first uncrewed mission. These developments underline the expanding scope of India’s space ambitions.

Boost to India’s Space Self-Reliance

The successful GSLV-F18/NVS-03 mission highlights India’s continued efforts to develop independent capabilities in critical space technologies. A stronger NavIC constellation can support reliable positioning, navigation and timing services for both civilian and strategic applications.

The achievement also reflects the contribution of Indian scientists, engineers, industries and academic institutions to the country’s growing space ecosystem.

With NVS-03 successfully placed in orbit and five more launches planned, India’s space programme is moving forward with an emphasis on indigenous technology, scientific innovation and wider public applications. The mission adds another chapter to ISRO’s efforts to strengthen India’s position in the global space sector.
