In a tragic incident in Bengaluru, a 70-year-old woman was killed early on Thursday, allegedly by a man who owed her money. The attack took place around 1 am at the victim’s residence, where her paralysed husband lay beside her, unable to assist during the horrific event. The accused, identified as 33-year-old Shivakumar, a wholesale shop owner, is believed to have entered the couple’s home with intentions fueled by a debt of approximately Rs 8 lakhs.
Details of the Crime Unfold
According to law enforcement officials, after the murder, Shivakumar searched the premises for cash and valuables before fleeing the scene with around 450 grams of gold jewellery, estimated to be worth roughly Rs 65 lakhs. The dire circumstances were captured in a video that showed the woman lying unconscious in a pool of blood, while her husband remained helpless on the same bed, with a television still broadcasting in the background.
Accused Attempts to Evade Capture
Following the crime, Shivakumar reportedly tried to avoid raising suspicion by mingling with bystanders who had gathered near the house. However, police acted swiftly, utilizing CCTV footage from the Nelamangala area of Rural Bengaluru to track him down and make an arrest within hours. The authorities have since confiscated the motorcycle, knife, and mobile phone believed to have been used in the crime.
