53,256 Energy Drink Bottles Seized In Jaipur Over Misleading Label Claims

The CSR Journal Magazine

On July 8, 2026, authorities in Jaipur confiscated 53,256 bottles of Red Bull Energy Drink as part of a significant enforcement operation. This action was executed under the Rajasthan government’s initiative named ‘Shuddh Aahar Milawat Par Waar.’ The drive aims to combat food adulteration and misleading food practices across the state.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar. The enforcement team, led by Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh, carried out the inspection at a warehouse operated by Ms Adarsh Associate in Jaipur.

During the raid, an inspection team from the Food Safety and Drug Control Commissionerate was involved, utilising defined protocols to assess compliance with food regulations. Representatives from the central team’s Jaipur headquarters participated actively in the investigation.

Misleading Label Claims Identified

According to Dr T Shubamangala, the Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner, the inspection revealed that the beverage cans promoted themselves as an “energy drink” while claiming to “vitalise body and mind.” Such assertions are considered misleading promotions under the guidelines released by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Joint Commissioner Dr Vijay Prakash Sharma noted that these claims do not meet the regulatory standards set by FSSAI, highlighting the importance of proper labelling for consumer safety. The law mandates accurate representation of food products to ensure informed consumer choices.

Samples of the caffeinated drink were taken for analysis, which will be conducted at the State Food Laboratory. The results of this examination are expected to inform subsequent actions concerning the alleged violations associated with product labelling.

Next Steps and Public Safety Measures

The Food Safety Department has announced plans to pursue legal actions against the parties involved, focusing on any breaches of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act). These proceedings will be based on the preliminary findings of the inspection and laboratory analysis outcomes.

Furthermore, the department has encouraged the public to exercise caution when purchasing food products that make dubious claims. They have urged individuals to report any such misleading products directly to the department to enhance consumer protection and maintain food quality standards.

As this campaign advances, the Rajasthan government’s commitment to improving food safety and transparency remains a priority, highlighting the necessity for vigilance among consumers and producers alike. The focus is on ensuring that food products sold in the market adhere to established health standards.
