A tragic incident involving a 12-year-old boy occurred in Bhanipur village, Bhadohi, during a cricket match. The child died after allegedly being struck on the head by a cricket bat that slipped from the hands of another player. The incident took place on the evening of July 8, 2026, while children aged between ten to fourteen were playing the game under the supervision of local adults.

According to Station House Officer Manoj Kumar, the victim was in the field when a 14-year-old boy attempted to hit a ball. The bat accidentally slipped from the batter’s grip, leading to the unfortunate incident. After the bat struck the boy, other players reportedly rushed to comfort him, after which the match resumed as the victim returned to bat during his team’s turn.

Victim’s Family Takes Immediate Action

Following the match, the boy returned home and began experiencing severe headache and dizziness throughout the night. His family, who were visiting from Pune, were alarmed when his condition deteriorated, prompting them to seek medical assistance. They transported him to a hospital in Prayagraj district for treatment.

Despite efforts by medical staff, the boy sadly succumbed to his injuries, leading to profound grief for the family. They had been in the area to visit relatives and were scheduled to return to Pune on July 10, highlighting the unexpected nature of this tragedy.

In light of the incident, the local police initiated a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The authorities confirmed that they would follow proper legal procedures following the examination results.

The police have begun legal proceedings based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father. They have registered a case of causing death by negligence. The alleged batter, a 14-year-old boy, has been detained for questioning, and further investigations are currently underway to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
