In a horrifying incident in West Bengal’s Nadia district, a 19-year-old college student, Ishita Malik, was shot dead inside her home in Krishnanagar on Monday afternoon. The accused, identified as Debraj, allegedly stormed into her residence and fired multiple shots, killing her in front of her family members.
Relationship Turned Tragic
According to police sources, Ishita had met Debraj while studying in Kanchrapara. The two were previously in contact, but she had recently stopped communicating with him. Upset over her decision to distance herself, Debraj reportedly decided to confront her at her home.
The incident occurred around 2 PM, when Debraj arrived at Ishita’s home. Her family tried to prevent him from entering, but he brandished a country-made revolver and threatened them. He forcefully entered the house, made his way to Ishita’s room, and locked the door from inside.
Moments later, gunshots were heard from inside the room, leaving the family and neighbors in shock.
Girl Found in Pool of Blood, Accused Flees
Superintendent of Police K. Amarnath told news agencies that Ishita was discovered lying in a pool of blood when the door was finally opened. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Debraj was seen fleeing the scene with the weapon still in his hand.
The police have launched an intensive search operation to trace the accused, who is currently on the run. Authorities are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning witnesses. The weapon used in the attack is believed to be an illegal, country-made revolver.

The brutal killing has sparked widespread outrage in Krishnanagar and surrounding areas. Locals have expressed deep concern over women’s safety and the ease with which such violence is carried out in residential neighborhoods. Police have promised swift justice and appealed to the public for any leads.
