The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has ramped up efforts to combat drug trafficking, resulting in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 4.79 crore during a series of synchronized operations spanning three districts. These actions have led to multiple arrests and disrupted critical supply chains associated with the illegal drug trade. Authorities noted that these operations are part of a broader initiative to enforce regulations against trafficking routes that traverse the state, an area frequently exploited by drug smugglers.

Key Seizures in Murshidabad

A significant breakthrough was achieved in Murshidabad, where law enforcement personnel from Berhampore acted on specific intelligence to confiscate 554 grams of opium. In the course of this operation, three individuals—Anarul Sk, Nasiruddin, and Sahabuddin Sk—were detained. Investigators indicated that these arrests were pivotal in dismantling a local distribution network in the region.

Brown Sugar Confiscation in Siliguri

The STF’s third operation in Siliguri led to the recovery of 1.224 kg of brown sugar, a substance known for its high potential for addiction. During this operation, two people, Saddam Hossain and Rojina Bibi—who is also referred to as Sebina—were apprehended. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that all individuals arrested are facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

Investigation into Trafficking Networks

Following these arrests, investigators are delving into financial transactions and are exploring potential connections to larger trafficking syndicates to gauge the magnitude of the network involved in these operations. Officials remarked that the recent seizures signify a crucial advancement in efforts to contain the circulation of narcotics within the state.
