Vijaya and Amalaki Ekadashi 2026 Dates and Significance

The CSR Journal Magazine

Ekadashi Observances During the Hindu Month of Phalgun

The Hindu calendar’s final month, Phalgun, is considered spiritually significant and includes the observance of two Ekadashi fasts. As with other lunar months, one Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon), and the other during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase). In the year 2026, devotees will observe Vijaya Ekadashi and Amalaki Ekadashi during this period.

Vijaya Ekadashi 2026: Date and Timing

Vijaya Ekadashi, observed during Phalgun Krishna Paksha, falls on Wednesday, 11 February 2026. The fast is undertaken from sunrise to the following morning by devotees seeking spiritual merit and divine blessings.

The Ekadashi Tithi will commence at 9:46 AM on 10 February 2026 and will conclude at 11:26 AM on 11 February 2026. The fast is typically observed on the day when the Ekadashi Tithi prevails at sunrise, which is 11 February in this case.

Parana, the ritual of breaking the fast, should be performed on 12 February 2026, after sunrise and within the specified time frame, which varies based on regional timings.

Amalaki Ekadashi 2026: Date and Timing

Amalaki Ekadashi, which occurs during the Shukla Paksha of Phalgun, will be observed on Wednesday, 25 February 2026. This Ekadashi is traditionally associated with the worship of the Amalaki or Amla tree, which is considered sacred in Hindu culture.

The Tithi will begin at 2:22 AM on 25 February 2026 and end at 4:34 AM on 26 February 2026. Since the Ekadashi Tithi is prevailing during sunrise on 25 February, that day is observed for the fast.

Parana is to be performed on 26 February after sunrise, once the Dwadashi begins, and within the appropriate time window.

Significance of Ekadashi in Hindu Tradition

Ekadashi is regarded as a spiritually auspicious day by followers of Hinduism. Observers usually undertake a day-long fast, offer prayers, and engage in rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Each Ekadashi has its own historical significance and scriptural references.

Vijaya Ekadashi is believed to be favourable for those seeking strength and victory in various aspects of life. Amalaki Ekadashi holds importance for the worship of the Amla tree and is celebrated for its association with good health, prosperity, and devotion.

Both Ekadashi observances in Phalgun are considered important for spiritual discipline and purification. Devotees often visit temples, read scriptures, and perform sacred rituals on these days.

These lunar fasts are part of a long-standing tradition observed across various regions in India, often with slight variations in customs and timings based on local calendars and community practices.
