Video of Pulwama Mastermind Hamza Burhan Holding AK-47 Challenges Pakistani Claims

The CSR Journal Magazine

A latest video featuring terrorist Hamza Burhan, who was fatally shot by unidentified assailants on May 21, has raised questions regarding Pakistan’s claims of his status. The footage shows Burhan wielding an AK-47 rifle, indicating a level of preparedness that contradicts the assertion that he was merely a school principal. Sources indicate that the video was recorded shortly before his death, suggesting that he often carried the weapon out of fear for his life.

Intelligence reports suggest that Burhan was known for his activism in propagating extremist ideologies among the youth in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). His alleged role as a school principal has come under scrutiny, with claims that it served as a cover for his terrorist activities.

Burhan’s Funeral Attended by Notorious Figures

The emergence of this video follows Burhan’s funeral on May 22, which reportedly attracted various wanted terrorists from across Pakistan, including Syed Salahuddin, leader of Hizbul Mujahideen, and Bakht Zameen Khan, commander of Al-Badr. This gathering has been characterised as a significant congregation of high-profile individuals associated with terrorism.

Social media visuals from the funeral reveal a substantial presence of armed militants surrounding key figures at the event. This has drawn further attention to allegations that Muzaffarabad acts as a central hub for Pakistan-based terrorist networks. Eyewitnesses have reported that the security measures taken during the ceremony were indicative of the high-risk environment surrounding those in attendance.

This gathering further illustrates the depth of connections between local terror groups and the Pakistani intelligence apparatus, reaffirming suspicions about their role in providing sanctuary and support to individuals like Burhan.

Profile of Hamza Burhan

Hamza Burhan, also known as Arjumand Gulzar Dar and referred to by the alias ‘Doctor’, was buried in Muzaffarabad one day after his assassination. He gained notoriety as one of the key figures behind the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

A native of Ratnipora in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Burhan reportedly crossed into Pakistan, where he later joined Al-Badr. The Indian Union Home Ministry designated him as a terrorist in 2022 due to his involvement in multiple acts of terrorism across Jammu and Kashmir.

In recent times, Burhan had allegedly been living incognito in PoK while reportedly acting as a teacher. Police sources had indicated that he held the position of principal at a private college in the region’s capital, further complicating his public persona.

This new footage and the subsequent analysis are likely to intensify debates around the extent of external influence and support for terrorism in the region. As investigations continue, the implications of this evidence may resonate across various security and diplomatic discussions regarding the situation in Kashmir.
