Vande Bharat Express from Srinagar to Vaishno Devi Extended to Jammu Tawi

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Union Minister, Jitendra Singh, confirmed that the Vande Bharat Express service currently connecting Srinagar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra will be extended to Jammu Tawi, effective April 30. The announcement was made on April 25, and it signifies an important development for passengers travelling between these significant locations in Jammu and Kashmir.

Increased Capacity and Coach Enhancement

In a bid to enhance travel experience, the number of coaches in the Vande Bharat Express has increased from eight to twenty. This modification significantly raises the train’s seating capacity, thus accommodating more passengers. Jitendra Singh shared these updates via social media, describing the changes as a gift to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir from the Modi government.

This extension is anticipated to improve connectivity and comfort for passengers, which is particularly relevant given the train’s role in promoting tourism. The Vande Bharat Express has been designed to reflect modern engineering advancements, catering to the demands of an increasing number of travellers on this route.

Moreover, the extensions are expected to foster regional development, enhancing not only tourism but also linking various socio-economic activities across the regions it serves.

Winterisation Technology for All-Weather Operation

The Indian Railways has incorporated advanced ‘winterisation’ technology into this Vande Bharat train, allowing it to operate efficiently in sub-zero temperatures typical of Jammu and Kashmir winters. This train is equipped with state-of-the-art heating systems designed to address the challenges posed by harsh weather conditions.

Notable innovations include ‘self-regulating heating cables’ that prevent water pipeline freezing by adjusting heat outputs according to external temperatures. Additionally, 1800W silicon heating pads have been installed in water tanks, ensuring systems function effectively even in frigid conditions.

The Vande Bharat Express also features special heating solutions for bio-tanks and other auxiliary systems, ensuring the sanitation infrastructure remains operational. For improved passenger comfort, warm air will be channelled to restrooms, and thermal insulation has been installed in toilets to support essential sanitary systems during cold weather.

Security and Performance Features

The train will operate at an impressive speed of 160 km per hour, reflecting its semi-high-speed capabilities. To enhance security, CCTV cameras have been installed throughout to monitor the safety of passengers. The train is also equipped with an energy-efficient regenerative braking system, a significant addition to its operational features.

Innovative design includes an embedded heating element in the main windshield to prevent fogging, ensuring visibility for the driver during adverse weather conditions. The pneumatic valves surrounding water tanks are safeguarded by stainless steel covers to mitigate potential damage from stones and other debris on the tracks.

This new Vande Bharat Express encapsulates significant advancements in indigenous engineering, focusing on delivering a fast, safe, and comfortable travel experience. The operational updates are a response to longstanding demands from local residents and travellers, aimed at ensuring reliable connectivity throughout all seasons in the region.
