The CSR Journal Magazine

Two women allegedly linked to a banned militant outfit were arrested in Manipur’s Thoubal district for their suspected involvement in abducting three minors with the intent of recruiting them into the organisation, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as cadres of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), were arrested from the Khangabok area on Monday following an investigation into the reported abduction of three children from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai in Kakching district on Sunday.

Police identified the arrested women as Ningthoujam Roshidiya (24), a resident of Khangabok Khulakpam Leikai, and Bidya (30) of Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai, both in Thoubal district.

According to a senior police officer, the abducted minors were rescued from Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district and later reunited with their parents. A vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping was also recovered during the operation. Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other accomplices involved in the incident.

Security situation in Manipur

Security forces have continued sustained search and combing operations across Manipur since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023 between Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups. The prolonged unrest has claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands of people.

Following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, President’s Rule was imposed in the state. The Manipur Legislative Assembly, whose term runs until 2027, is currently under suspended animation.
