Trump Pauses US Operation to Seize Iran’s Enriched Uranium Amid Fears of Retaliation

The CSR Journal Magazine

The United States’ top military officials recently engaged in sensitive discussions regarding a proposed operation to secure Iran’s highly enriched uranium. According to CNN, General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, made an unannounced visit to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) headquarters in Florida late last month to receive critical briefings on this matter.

These briefings were regarded as essential and so urgent that General Caine had to abruptly end a meeting with NATO officials in Brussels and return to Tampa, Florida, on May 19. This urgency underscores how close the administration was to endorsing a high-risk military operation.

A spokesperson for the Joint Staff declined to comment on any operational preparations, maintaining secrecy around the details. Sources indicate that General Caine subsequently briefed President Donald Trump about the various potential actions the United States could take regarding the mission.

Trump Halts Operation Due to Concerns

Additionally, sources mentioned that Trump was apprehensive about potential US casualties related to the operation. The mission’s planning reportedly took place even as Trump was expressing optimism about reaching agreements with Iran aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finalising discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.
