The CSR Journal Magazine

On Thursday morning in a controlled operation, a six storey building that had tilted over years, risking lives of people residing and also nearby residents, was demolished in Jaipur’s densely populated Ramganj area. This operation brought relief to locals who have been staying under the risk of disaster for over a month now.

On May 9, the building located in Cheeta Walon Ka Mohalla tilted, raising major safety concerns. As per the municipal officials, this particular structure’s pillars were severely damaged while the construction work happened. After multiple complaints by the residents, finally the municipal corporation conducted an inspection a few days back. Then after the structure was declared unsafe, and notice for evacuation was given and today it was demolished.

Demolition under technical guidance

The complete demolition was done with high precision and technical experts were involved throughout. A complete assessment was done and plan was made for safe demolition, as Ramganj is a densely populated area, so high risk of accident. Ramganj in Jaipur is known for the narrow lanes, houses close by, almost packed, so extensive precautions were taken to ensure that neighbouring buildings don’t get affected.

Before starting the operation, authorities sealed the roads and barricaded the area so that public movement could be restricted. Ramganj Police were deployed in large numbers, so that law and order is maintained, as this area is famous for communal clashes and disturbances.

Additional safety measures were taken, atleast 15 houses near the building were vaccanted and people were shifted to safer location. And also, the power supply was cut temporarily so that any electrical hazards could be avoided. After the demolition, officials spoke to media and informed that the demolition went well and no injuries and damages have happened.

Local residents sighed relief, they welcomed the action, as the tilted structure had become a serious threat. Currently the authorities have started investigating to find out what led to this structural failure.
