Three Dead, Hundreds of Solar Panels and Power Poles Damaged in Rajasthan Dust Storm

A powerful dust storm along with rain caused havoc across Barmer, Jaisalmer and Phalodi on Monday evening. A young folk artist and two children died and many injured. Official reported, 700 solar panels uprooted and 800 electricity distribution poles damaged.

Folk artist killed while performing

25-year-old folk artist Swaroop Khan, who was the member of Manganiyar community died while performing, wall collapsed during the cultural performance at the desert resort in Sam sand dunes area. The resort owner Baroch Khan said, “While the programme was ongoing and around 40 tourists were attending the programme, strong winds forced approached, forcing the organizers to call off the event and sift the guests to a safer location. However, a few moments later, it was seen that a concrete wall behind the open-air stage collapsed on the performers.”
Performer Swaroop Khan died on the spot and other performers were injured, two women kalbeliya suffered severe injuries and were immediately shifted to Jodhpur for specialized treatment.

Power outage in Jaisalmer

Due to the powerful storm and rain, electricity network is badly affected in Jaisalmer. The District Collector Anupama Jorwal shared with journalists that the electricity transmission tower has collapsed, and many transformers damaged, 33 KV and 11 KV transmission lines snapped. Because of the destruction, around 150 villages in Sam and Khuiyala regions were almost blackout for several hours. Areas near Fatehgarh also suffered power cut. Restoration work is underway, rebuilding of transmission tower will take atleast four days.

Tragic incident in Barmer

Two children died in two separate incidents because of the collapsing of walls. This incident has happened in Sabri Nagar village under Bola gram panchayat. One victim was 8 years old and another was 4 years old. Many other seriously injured.

Bhadla Solar Park in Phalodi district, which is India’s largest solar energy hubs suffered damage. Collector of Phalodi Ankit Kumar Singh said, “A 300-MW facility operated by Acme Solar Holdings sustained damage. As per official report 700 solar panels uprooted and around 800 electricity distribution poles damaged.”
