Telangana: BRS Demands Investigation into Revenue Minister’s Alleged Illegal Mining Activities

The CSR Journal Magazine

In Hyderabad, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator Kalvakuntla Sanjay Kumar has raised concerns regarding the role of Telangana’s Revenue Minister in alleged illegal mining operations. During a protest organised at Gun Park, Kumar highlighted evidence that suggests significant revenue losses attributed to the minister’s actions. He urged the state government to initiate a House Committee investigation, expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s inaction on the matter. Kumar stated, “The revenue minister is looting all the state revenue, and we have clearly shown this to the government with evidence. We request that the government form a House Committee, but till now, the government has not responded. Immediate action is needed regarding the revenue minister.”

Chief Minister Orders Inquiry into Mining Activities

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced a Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) inquiry into mining leases and allegations of illegal mining dating back to the founding of the state in 2014. This inquiry will also encompass investigations related to the Sircilla sand mafia, implicating former BRS MP Santosh Rao and his father, Ravinder Rao. Additionally, allegations concerning illegal granite mining connected to former NRS Minister Gangula Kamalakar, as well as activities linked to BRS Rajya Sabha MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra’s company and Raghava Constructions, will be scrutinized. The Chief Minister emphasized that the investigation aims to reveal the truth behind these serious allegations.

KTR Critiques Allegations of Intimidation

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) addressed the situation, asserting that intimidation by the Chief Minister has become a frequent response when allegations of misconduct against members of the ruling party are raised. KTR remarked on the actions of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, indicating that the Chief Minister’s approach has veered towards threats aimed at the opposition instead of addressing the issues at hand. He assured that BRS would not yield to such pressure.

Concerns about Musi Project and Allegations of Corruption

KTR expressed serious worries regarding the Musi project, alleging that substantial corruption is taking place under its guise. He criticized the Chief Minister for suggesting a lack of funds to fulfill election promises, while concurrently announcing an expenditure of nearly Rs. 1.5 lakh crore on the Musi project. KTR accused the Congress government of disregarding a comprehensive Rs. 16,000 crore plan previously developed by the BRS administration, claiming that current estimates are being inflated to facilitate corrupt practices.

Previous Administration’s Progress on Infrastructure

The BRS leader reminded constituents that the previous administration nearly finalized sewage treatment infrastructure for the Musi River and planned to ensure water supply through the Kaleshwaram project. He charged that the current government is deliberately inflating costs to pave the way for significant financial irregularities, compounding concerns about transparency and accountability within the state’s governance.
