Gujarat: Sleeping Man Falls From 10th Floor, Cheats Death as Leg Gets Stuck in Grille

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 57-year-old man in Gujarat’s Surat narrowly escaped death after accidentally falling from the 10th floor of his apartment building on Wednesday morning. The incident took place around 8 am at the Times Galaxy residential complex in the Jahangirpura area, triggering panic among residents and prompting an urgent rescue operation by the fire brigade.

The man, identified as Nitinbhai Adiya, was reportedly sleeping near a window in his flat when he turned in his sleep and slipped out. What could have been a fatal fall was dramatically halted when his leg got stuck in the protective grille of a flat on the eighth floor, leaving him hanging upside down.

Neighbours Alert Fire Brigade After Spotting Man Hanging

Residents of the building noticed Adiya suspended precariously from the grille and immediately alerted emergency services. Videos circulating on social media show him dangling in a terrifying position, his leg painfully wedged in the metal grille while people below watched in shock.

Fire and emergency teams from three stations, Jahangirpura, Palanpur, and Adajan, rushed to the spot. Given the height and risk involved, the operation required careful coordination to avoid further injury or a fatal fall.

High-Risk Rescue Operation Lasts Over an Hour

Firefighters secured Adiya from the 10th floor using ropes and safety belts while another team worked from the eighth floor. To free his trapped leg, the grille was partially cut. Residents assisted by holding a safety net below as an added precaution.

After nearly an hour-long rescue effort, officials successfully pulled Adiya to safety. The moment he was brought inside drew visible relief and applause from onlookers, many of whom had recorded the dramatic rescue on their phones.

Man Hospitalised, Condition Stable

Following the rescue, Adiya was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said he sustained injuries but was conscious and responding. Doctors are monitoring him, and his condition is reported to be stable.

Authorities have once again urged residents of high-rise buildings to ensure window safety measures, especially near sleeping areas, to prevent similar accidents.
