A considerable expanse of rain-bearing clouds has formed over various regions of Gujarat, as indicated by recent satellite imagery. The thermal infrared image obtained from the INSAT-3DS satellite on 14 September 2026 demonstrates an active weather pattern, marked by intense cloud formations across western and central India.

The dominant feature is a low-pressure area that is drawing in moisture from surrounding regions, resulting in continuous spells of heavy rainfall across the state. The weather pattern has caused widespread cloud cover, accompanied by vigorous convective activity, which is discernible from aerial observations. Gujarat remains significantly affected by this system, which is expected to persist in influencing weather conditions throughout western India.

Consequently, residents and local authorities are closely monitoring the weather forecasts to manage the implications of the ongoing rain. Forecasts suggest that this low-pressure entity will maintain its impact over the next few days, sustaining the potential for heavy rainfall in various parts of the state. The persistent weather advisory indicates that the local populace should remain vigilant and prepared for sudden changes in weather conditions.

Developments Across Northern Plains

In addition to developments in Gujarat, weather-related activity is beginning to manifest across the northern plains of India. Easterly winds that are prevalent in the region are aiding in moisture transport, creating favourable conditions for cumulus cloud formation. With increasing daytime temperatures, these clouds are likely to develop rapidly, leading to potential rainfall and thunderstorms in several areas.

Parts of Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh may experience brief episodes of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon. It is important to note that such rain events are often localised, impacting only specific neighbourhoods within the region. Reports suggest that only approximately 20 to 30 per cent of the area may witness significant precipitation.

It means that while some areas could receive a downpour, others might remain mostly dry. During the afternoon, particularly between 1 pm and 7 pm, the conditions appear most favourable for these passing rain showers. With the interplay of heat and moisture in the atmosphere, the likelihood of showers increases, creating an unpredictable weather pattern.

Contrasting Weather Conditions in India

The satellite imagery highlights the dichotomy in India’s late-monsoon weather. While a substantial low-pressure system continues to generate extensive rain clouds over Gujarat and the western part of the country, the northern plains are experiencing sporadic and transient convective showers. This contrast in weather activity reflects the complex nature of the Indian monsoon.

As Gujarat remains under the influence of the active rain-bearing system, northern India is preparing for another afternoon characterised by potentially erratic monsoon showers. Residents are likely to encounter rapidly changing weather, with sections receiving bright sunlight interspersed with periods of dark clouds and sudden rainfall.

The ongoing weather patterns should be closely monitored, as both the low-pressure area in Gujarat and the emerging weather activity in the northern plains play critical roles in the current monsoon season. Local meteorological services continue to provide updates to ensure that the affected populations are well-informed and can take necessary precautions.
