NCP (SP) Working President Supriya Sule addressed the media on Thursday concerning the future of the Nationalist Congress Party following the demise of Ajit Pawar, who tragically lost his life in a plane crash on January 28. Sule underscored the collective moral obligation to realize the aspirations left unfulfilled by Pawar, while also indicating that discussions surrounding the potential merger of the party factions would remain confidential.
In her statements, Sule emphasized the need for solidarity among party members in light of their recent loss. “Dada is no more, so I do not want to revisit old matters. Whatever discussions we had remain between us,” she said. Her remarks came in response to ongoing speculation about a possible merger between the two factions within the party.
When questioned about the likelihood of continuing merger talks, Sule reiterated that the family is currently mourning and preferred not to provide additional comments on the subject at this time. Her focus remains on honoring Ajit Pawar’s legacy and fulfilling the objectives he had set forth.
Additionally, Sule remarked on concerns expressed by MLA Rohit Pawar regarding the plane crash that claimed Ajit’s life. She noted that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had committed to a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Sule acknowledged the validity of the unease felt by Pawar, stating, “His uneasiness is natural. There are many questions about what happened, how it happened and whether it could have been prevented. The chief minister has promised a detailed probe. We should wait for its outcome.”
In her comments, Sule also conveyed appreciation towards various political leaders who extended their well wishes to NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar during his recent hospitalization. She highlighted the outreach from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, among others. “I sincerely thank everyone for standing with the Pawar family during this period,” Sule remarked, acknowledging the support received from across the political spectrum.
