Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan Records World’s Highest Temperature

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sri Ganganagar located in the northern side of Rajasthan, near to the India-Pakistan border has become the hottest place in the world on Wednesday. The district sizzled with 48.2 degrees Celsius. Many cities across Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi boiled under the ongoing heat wave. Other places like Bikaner and Rohtak reached 46.6°C each, Jaisalmer and Churu boiled at 46.4°C. Similarly, Jansi reached 46°C, and Hisar touched 45°C and New Delhi at 44.6°C. Met Department has predicted that similar temperature will prevail for a few days and then after there will be thunderstorms and dust storms in both northern India and central India.

Why is Sri Ganganagar the hottest place?

The geography of the place, weather conditions and dry wind has made Sri Ganganagar the hottest place. Currently the area is affected with strong northwesterly winds which are blowing from the arid desert of Pakistan and Rajasthan. These dry winds are very hot and have the capacity to increase the afternoon temperature. And adding to it is the lack of clouds due to which the solar radiation isn’t blocked and hits directly. This time of the year, the sun sits directly overhead in north India, and this leads to the increase in temperature especially in the daytime.

Why did pre-monsoon heatwaves intensified in Rajasthan?

As per the experts of Meteorological department the pre-monsoon heatwaves have intensified in Rajasthan as there are no active western disturbances over the northwest India, especially Rajasthan. With days of similar temperature and clear sky, has led to head accumulation over many states including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and New Delhi.

One interesting fact about Sri Ganganagar is, it is famous for canal irrigation, even then it experiences extreme temperatures, as it is surrounded by desert. However, it is expected that some relief would be coming around soon. As per the forecast there will be thunderstorms, gusty winds from Thursday evening onward, and high chances, the temperature will come down to 40°C or even lower than that.

While relief is expected, there is warning as well, that there can be severe thunderstorms and lightning.
