Rotten Fruits, Stale Kebabs Found During Food Safety Raids In Shivamogga

The CSR Journal Magazine

A food safety inspection team led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dr Maitri found rotten and fungus-infested fruits and allegedly artificially coloured kebabs during raids on eateries and juice shops in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. The inspections resulted in two outlets of Tanu Juice Centre being sealed, while samples from several other establishments were collected for laboratory testing.

The enforcement drive covered juice shops as well as non-vegetarian hotels in the Dargah Complex area. Officials reported unhygienic conditions at multiple establishments and also seized expired juice bottles from Hotel Malnad. Food samples collected during the inspections will be tested to determine whether the establishments violated prescribed safety standards.

Spoiled Fruits, Coloured Kebabs Found

The inspection team first conducted a raid at a juice centre, where officials found a large quantity of fruits that had deteriorated and developed fungal growth. The condition of the produce raised concerns about whether it was fit for consumption, prompting authorities to take action against the outlet.

Officials also discovered kebabs that were allegedly prepared using artificial colouring. Samples were collected and sent for laboratory examination to establish what ingredients had been used and whether they complied with food safety regulations.

Following the findings, two outlets of Tanu Juice Centre were sealed and ordered to remain closed. The action formed part of a wider enforcement drive against food businesses found to be failing to meet hygiene and safety requirements.

Hotels Also Face Inspection

The inspections were subsequently extended to non-vegetarian hotels operating in the Dargah Complex area. During surprise checks, officials found unhygienic conditions at several establishments, including Hotel Red.

At Hotel Malnad, the team seized expired juice bottles. The discovery added to concerns over the handling and sale of food and beverages and compliance with basic safety requirements.

Authorities collected samples of kebabs, mutton and other food items from the establishments inspected during the drive. The samples have been sent for testing, with the results expected to help determine whether further action is required against the businesses concerned.

Traders Given 15 Days To Rectify Violations

The inspections are part of efforts by authorities to ensure that eateries, hotels and other food outlets comply with prescribed hygiene and safety standards and do not sell products that could pose a risk to consumers.

Traders found to have violated the prescribed norms have been given 15 days to rectify the deficiencies identified during the inspections. Authorities have warned that establishments failing to comply within the stipulated period could face disciplinary action.

The two sealed Tanu Juice Centre outlets will remain closed as directed. Further action against the establishments found to have breached food safety norms will depend on the laboratory test results and compliance reports submitted to the authorities.
