Punjab Police Dismantles ISI-Supported Khalistani Terror Module

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Punjab Police announced, that they successfully dismantled a terror module linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), which is reportedly backed by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). This significant operation led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly handling extremist activities. The operation involved collaborative efforts from the Amritsar Rural Police, Gurdaspur Police, and the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in conjunction with central agencies.

According to police officials, the module was being managed by a handler based outside India, raising serious concerns regarding cross-border coordination and the extent of such support. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav characterised the outcome as a notable breakthrough, emphasising the gravity of the situation.

“In a major breakthrough, District Amritsar Rural, District Gurdaspur, SSOC-Amritsar, in a joint operation with Central Agencies, busts an ISI-sponsored BKI terror module operated by a foreign-based handler and arrests two accused,” stated Yadav.

Recovered Arms and Explosives

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized a substantial cache of arms and explosive materials from the detained suspects. This included five hand grenades, two special detonators, and a push-to-talk (PTT) timer with both coder and decoder capabilities. Additionally, a 9V battery and about one kilogram of high explosive material packed with nails were recovered, suggesting the preparation of an improvised explosive device (IED).

Among the recovered items was also a Baofeng walkie-talkie along with its accompanying cable and triggering mechanisms. The police highlighted the significance of these items in the context of potential high-impact attacks aimed at creating public unrest.

“Authorities indicated that the types of materials found pointed towards an intent to conduct significant operations designed to disrupt peace in the region. These serious allegations underscore the threats posed by the individuals involved.”

Ongoing Investigations and Security Concerns

A case has been officially registered at the Kalanaur police station in Gurdaspur, under the relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on uncovering the broader network associated with the arrested individuals, including identifying foreign handlers as well as local facilitators that may be involved.

In response to the operation’s findings, authorities are also examining potential linkages with other extremist organisations to evaluate the wider implications for security. This offensive comes just days following a grenade attack outside the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh, carried out by a Khalistani terrorist named Sukhjinder Singh Babbar.

Only three days after the attack, the Punjab Police confirmed the arrest of five individuals linked to the incident, whereas two alleged masterminds remain at large. In light of these recent events and escalated threats, the Punjab capital and sensitive border areas have been placed on high alert, with renewed security measures being implemented.
