The CSR Journal Magazine

President Droupadi Murmu has appointed N Rangasamy as the chief minister of Puducherry, as stated in a recent government notification. The announcement was made public on Saturday and indicates that the appointment will take effect from the date of Rangasamy’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the news through an official notification, articulating the President’s approval of Rangasamy for the chief ministerial role in the Union Territory. This marks a significant development in Puducherry’s political landscape ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for May 13.

Formation of Government

Following the presidential notification, Lieutenant Governor K Kailashnathan has formally invited Rangasamy to take the necessary steps to form the government. This invite signifies that Rangasamy will be leading the administration as per the election results in which the All India NR Congress (AINRC)-led NDA coalition emerged victorious.

Rangasamy is set to begin his fifth term as chief minister after his party won a substantial mandate in the elections conducted on April 9. The results of these elections were declared on May 4, confirming his party’s dominant position in the territory.

In the elections, the AINRC successfully secured victory in 12 out of the 16 seats it contested, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning four of the ten seats it stood for. Other members of the NDA coalition, namely the AIADMK and the Latchia Jananayaga Katchi (LJK), claimed one seat each, bringing the alliance’s total to 18 seats in the 30-member House.

Opposition Performance

The opposition parties also performed in the elections, with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) winning five seats and the Indian National Congress securing one seat. Additionally, the newly emerged Thamizhaga Vivasayigal Katchi (TVK) won two seats, contributing to a varied political representation in the assembly.

This election has underscored the dynamics of Puducherry’s political environment, revealing a broad spectrum of support for both the ruling alliance and the opposition. The coalition’s strong performance is anticipated to influence upcoming policy decisions and administrative actions in the Union Territory.

As N Rangasamy prepares for his swearing-in ceremony, constituents and political observers alike are keenly awaiting the new government’s strategy for governance, particularly in areas crucial to the development and administration of Puducherry.
